Networked crises? Banning, limiting or embracing smartphones in Australian Schools
This Social Sciences Week event is presented by the Research School of Social Sciences (RSSS) and the School of Sociology at the Australian National University.
This public panel features three social scientists who research the intersections of young people, digitalisation, data, surveillance, performativity and subjectivity. The panellists will reflect on the public and policy debate in recent times about plans to ban the use of smartphones in NSW schools. They will explore the parameters of the debate from various disciplinary perspectives and angles, and will open up new ways of problematising and understanding the relationship between networked devices and young people.
