Thesis topic: An ethnographic study of gambling in social clubs.

Elizabeth Kirk’s research explores how patrons use social clubs, what they get out of going to the club and being club members.  This includes investigating the ways that club patrons make use of gambling facilities, in particular Electronic Gaming Machines (pokies), that the club provides. This research aims to contribute to understanding the role that gambling and clubs play in people’s lives across the continuum of gambling behaviour.
