The Future of Criminological Research

Larry Saha Room (HA2175)

Professor Rick Sarre & Dr. Tara McGee
(University of South Australia & Griffith University)

Current Australian social attitude data remains positive: Australian’s major concerns are more likely now to be the economy, education and health before they mention their fear of crime. There has also been a great uptake in criminological academic programs across Australia and New Zealand, and in particular higher degrees. More and more students are joining the criminological academies. Given these two trends, what are our preferred avenues for future research? What promises to enjoy the greatest uptake by those seeking to be ‘evidence-based’ policy-makers? What indeed is the future of criminology in the Antipodes?
