Online seminar by Dr Diane Smith: Indigenous Self-Determination and Self-Governance in the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Indigenous Self-Determination and Self-Governance in the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Dr Diane Smith (CAEPR, ANU)

This seminar will be delivered online

In this Topical Discussion, Dr Diane Smith from the Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research (CAEPR) at the Australian National University will open discussion about the specific, and potentially dramatic, impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on Indigenous Australians. From the early days of the pandemic, representative Indigenous organisations acted to protect their communities, when it was clear that governments were not providing a clear, consistent and appropriate response, let alone bipartisan coordination of urgently needed policy and program support. This session is an opportunity for discussion on the specific problems faced by Indigenous communities and organisations in this extraordinary time, the gaps in the enablement of self-governance and the evident strengths of Indigenous people, their organisations and polities.

As this is an online zoom seminar you will need to register to attend. Please email sociology.events@anu.edu.au
