ANU School of Sociology present at the BSA Annual Conference 2023

Dr Maria Hynes, and PhD students Benjamin Hemmings and Isabel Mudford attended the British Sociology Association Annual Conference held at the University of Manchester, UK, from 12 to 14 April. This 3-day conference is the biggest sociology event in the United Kingdom, each year. The 2023 edition had more than 16 streams and 500+ presentations.

Dr. Hynes presentation, ArtScience and Immaterial Labour draws on qualitative research with artists in Berlin to explore artistic practice at the intersection of art and science, arguing that Maurizzio Lazzarato’s theory of immaterial labour gains new relevance with the emergence of these novel fields of cultural practice.

Benjamin Hemmings and Isabel Mudford participated in the ‘Medicine, Health & Illness’ stream presenting the papers Between the Normal and Pathological: Discourses of Mild Mental Illness in Digital Mental health and COVID-19 and Minority Stress: Wounded Attachments to the Sick Queer
