Saturday 21 November 2009

During the 1950s and 1960s, Leonard Broom made several trips as Fulbright Scholar to the ANU where he established close ties with George Zubrzycki and Frank Jones. He returned to take up the position of research fellow (1971-76), honorary fellow (1977-79), and professor emeritus (from 1977). Leonard is survived by his wife of 69 years Gretchan Cooke Broom, son Karl Broom, daughter Dorothy Broom (Prof of Sociology in the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health at ANU), and five grandchildren.
