Speaker: Janet Congues, PhD Pre-submission Seminar
Location: Larry Saha Room, Haydon Allen Building, #22 (HA2175)
This presentation focuses particularly on analysing the findings of the interviews of women who farmed in the Goulburn Valley, Victoria, Australia between the drought years of 2006-2010. It uses Smith’s feminist standpoint theory in conjunction with some key concepts from the works of Bourdieu and Heller to situate knowledge from the standpoint of women within their everyday. Women’s recollection of farming during the drought uncovered knowledge, experience and expertise that among other findings, highlighted potential opportunities for local government to support rural communities better manage for drought in the future.
