ANU Cybercrime Observatory members, Professor Peter Grabosky and Dr Raymond Choo, recently presented at the World Crime Forum: 1st ASIAN Regional Conference in Seoul, Korea.
The forum was hosted by the Korean Institute of Criminology (KIC) and the International Society for Criminology (ISC) on 20 June 2013.
Professor Peter Grabosky presented a paper on organised crime and reflected on the extent to which organised criminal use of the Internet poses a threat to national or international security, highlighting that this is dependent on two basic definitional issues: what is security, and what is organised crime? During his presentation Professor Grabosky addressed these issues, and discussed situations in which security has been threatened, or is likely to be, by organised cybercriminal activity. The increase pervasiveness of digital technology makes its continuing exploitation for criminal purpose inevitable. Some of these may threaten security, but others not.
Dr Raymond Choo's paper on cloud forensics, investigated how cloud computing has revolutionised the way business operates and has been a seamingless component to everyday Internet users experience. Dr Choo's presentation reviewed how digital forensics could be applied to cloud computing, and he introduced a cloud forensics framework. This framework, outlined and described by Dr Choo, includes six steps: 1. commence (scope), 2. identification and preservation, 3. collection, 4. examination and analysis, 5. reporting and presentation, and 6. feedback and complete.
