Call for expressions of interest
This seminar series connects researchers interested in social and critical perspectives to mental health in Australia, New Zealand and nearby. It follows from the 2020 workshop series 'The social production of mental health and illness', organized virtually by the ANU School of Sociology. In 2021, the seminars will be co-hosted by the ANU School of Sociology and the RMIT HASH Network. In addition to the usual online seminar series, we plan to organise other activities to enable researchers to exchange emerging and developed research ideas, share information and resources, develop potential collaborations, and co-develop this field of research.
By 'the social production of mental health', we refer to a diverse range of research areas. This might include lived experiences of mental health; the relation between mental health and its social and cultural contexts; inequalities and injustice in mental health; theories of mental health and madness; alternative approaches to the 'mental health crisis'; social and ethical issues in mental health care; and the politics of mental health. We welcome researchers from a broad range of disciplines and approaches including activist groups and studies, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, media studies, psychology, psychiatry, policy analysis, media studies, critical public health and other disciplinary fields. Participants do not need to be current employees or students at universities. Feel free to send us an email to ask more information.
If you would like to present your work or listen in to the 2021 seminar series (first semester, likely to be AEST 13:00), please send a short outline of your work/interests by April 10, 2021 to baptiste.brossard@anu.edu.au and natalie.hendry@rmit.edu.au
